SHSID FRC Training

September 10, 2020

On the afternoon of September 6th, the FRC team of SHSID held an offline training for the first time in the STEM classroom of Zhentao Building.

The FRC Competition, known as an international robotics competition for high school students from Grades 9-12, is a world-wide influential competition sponsored by the FIRST community. The captain of SHSID’s current team is David, a student in Grade 11. In the previous training during summer, the team members had preliminarily completed the design and programming of the robot. Many of the two boxes’ worth of parts that will be used when constructing the robot were processed according to the engineering drawings made by members of the design group.

This training was the first time for the design and programming groups to meet offline, and it was also the first time for them to cooperate and complete the tasks planned about robot construction. First, the teachers taught for an hour to let the team members gain some basic knowledge about mechanical assembly and how to use the assembly tools. Members then assigned tasks to different groups of people to build different parts of the robot. Although some of the team members were at a loss at the beginning, everyone gradually got familiar with the construction process through the teachers’ careful guidance and their own exploration. After more than three hours of cooperation, the target set by the teachers was reached.

The first robot construction training has successfully ended. May the team members can brave the wind and waves in the following competition and achieve their best.
