Grade 9: Parents Meeting
After the Team-Building Contest on September 3rd, the “High School Launch Lessons” drew to a close for the freshmen. A parents meeting was held to introduce the core values and curriculum of high school to the students’ parents.
At 18:05 on the 4th of September, the parents were seated in the Xianmian Auditorium. Ms. Gu Ying, the director of 9th Grade, commenced the event by introducing the homeroom teachers and announcing the day’s first speaker: Principle Ma Feng. His speech focused on the core values of high school, including axis-flipped projects, PBL programs, and self-driven learning. The second speech was given by Vice Principal Liu Min. She primarily discussed the highlights of high school; these included topics such as the diversity of choices, approaches to learning, time management, and autonomy.
Next, Ms. Chen Lin, the head of the teacher advisor (TA) office, gave an overview of the services offered by the TAs, which involve college counseling, four-year-plans, summer program recommendations, and support for the social and emotional changes that students may be going through. Last but not least, Mr. Davier Rodriguez, a TA counselor, gave a detailed and thorough explanation of how the TAs and how parents can help students relieve stress.
After the parents meeting, the parents were more informed of what high school would look like for their children, and what is expected of the students in the next four years.
