Grade12: "Explore Yourself" Senior Orientation Day 2
On September 2nd, Grade 12 students welcomed their second and final day of the 2020 Senior Orientation. Just like the first day, it was filled with a multitude of exciting activities, including desert island, straw bridge building, personal essay workshop, and outdoor exercises.
In the morning, students gathered in their homerooms to play a collaborative game called Desert Island, in which students were divided into small groups and assigned a mission to survive by themselves on an uninhabited island. The classrooms were filled with laughter as students enjoyed the game and strengthened their relationships with peers. The next activity was a personal statement workshop, where students worked with their Personal Growth teachers to receive feedback on the essays they wrote over the summer.
Besides that, the students also participated in a bridge building activity. They worked in different groups and used nothing but plastic straws and paper clips to create a bridge that could handle certain amount of weight. Students enthusiastically began, using their creativity and knowledge which allowed them to effectively build a variety of bridges.
After lunch, the students headed outside for two outdoor activities. Under professional guidance from a coach, students experienced archery and subsequently engaged in a competition against other classes. Next, the students played a card game, where every class must flip a set of cards in an order within certain amount of time. Through this game, students learned the importance of establishing a strategy in advance as well as how crucial every member of the team is to achieve a goal.
In this exciting atmosphere, this year's Grade 12 students successfully finished their senior orientation. Certainly, they had a fulfilling and enriching time over the past two days, and are ready for the challenge that awaits them in the new academic year.
