September 7, 2020

In the 7thperiod on Sep. 3rd, the sophomores of SHSID attended the first Academy session and listened to the lecture: “A Critical Perspective to the Arts” in the Lecture Room of Zhentao Building.

The lecturer, Mr. Wujianjing is an experienced Chemistry and Music teacher as well as a singer and musician. In his lecture, he had many interactive and interesting activities to let the students understand what this “critical perspective” is. At the beginning, he showed the music composed by AI, the famous musician Sakutomo, and one of his students. The sophomores’ job here was to identify which music belongs to which composer. There were interactive discussions between the students and some of them even shared their ideas in front of everyone. Their explanations were all very logical which showed profound music foundations. He then brought up questions that sparked the audience with discussion on AI composers and human composers.

Moving from music, Mr. Wu talked about painting. He also showed the students paintings drawn by famous artists, young contemporary artists, a primary school student, and the elephant Kamara. The students guessed the authors of different abstract artworks. All of the students enjoyed this lecture. They enjoyed the beauty of art as well as gaining deeper understandings about critical perspective.
