Grade 10: Self Exploration and Time Management
In the afternoon of September 2nd, SHSID’s 10th graders had two meaningful CAS classes that discussed two themes: “Who Am I?” and “Time Management”.
In the 6th period, students thought about the seemingly philosophical question: “Who am I?” through an activity. First, every student is asked to think about their hobbies and interests and write them down on a piece of paper. Next, they break down one or two of their interests into specific reasons to see why they like them. For example, students can like basketball because they like spending time with their friends, or they just simply like outdoor sports. After that, they examine the foundation of themselves through a list of central values provided by their homeroom teacher. And lastly, they re-examine their interests and group them based on the foundation they decided. Through this activity, every student gets to know more about his/her interests and why they are appealing.
In the 7th period, everyone gathered in the B1 lecture hall and listened to a lecture given by ASB members discussing time management. The lecture aimed to help deal with procrastination. Every ASB member first shared her own activities in the past year, the possible reasons for procrastination, and how to deal with each of the reasons, and her own growth throughout the year. They then hosted the game “Never Have I Ever” to help everyone think about their procrastination issues and how they can change them. At the end, they also suggested ways to prevent procrastination such as planning ahead, minimizing distraction, and using the Forrest app to better manage time.
The CAS class helps each student know himself/herself more, and to think about the kinds of activities and work they want to engage in in the future. At the same time, everyone learned the importance of time management and ways to deal with procrastination. These tips will help them save more time to develop their own interests and personalities.
