High School Biology Department: Biology Week Lecture Series 2
From June 10 to June 11, the wonderful lectures of biology week continued. Although it has been the last two days, students’ enthusiasm for learning biology has not decreased, and there were still more than 100 students in the online meeting room for each lecture. So what interesting lectures did the seniors bring during these two days?
Burping is sometimes awkward. Why do we burp? How to stop burping? Abigail and Ellie gave us the answer. There are many different causes for burping, such as drinking carbonated drinks that can produce gas, or having gastroesophageal reflux. Therefore, according to different situations, different ways can be used to alleviate burping symptoms.
Genes determine our various traits. Then, are there genes that can give us super power? Sue and Sueun introduced three kinds of superpowers and the genes that determine these abilities. For example, an allele of the ACTN3 gene changes the composition of muscles, so that people having this gene can run faster in sprints. In addition, the two lecturers showed that there are more superpower genes waiting for us to explore and discover.
In the last two days of the biology week, the discussion became more heated, showing students' curiosity in life science and their passion for learning biology. The lecturers answered questions from teachers and students in a professional manner, showing their in-depth study of the questions and their solid foundation of knowledge. Thank these student lecturers for bringing us the lively and interesting lectures. Hope that students who attended these lectures can ask their own questions of interest and find their answers.
