Grade 9: Reflection on Club Activities

June 11, 2020

However unpromising the external world sometimes might be, there is something simple yet meaningful happening around us everyday. Every Sunday morning, a group of students from SHSID always appear at Shanghai Healing Home, hoping to bring delights to the children who are, unfortunately, not blessed with a fully-functioning body. In the 16th week of this semester, they brought us the sharing.

The very heart of the mission at SHH is to take actions. Being a proud part of SHH club activity, every member is impressed by the wonderful results that a simple act of kindness can initiate, and utterly amazed by the fact that people could bring such beautiful feelings to one another through serving and contributing. For the members personally, children love to be with them, and whenever a child talks to them, there is a powerful inner will within them to interact with the kids more. It feels as if one was loved by an innocent earthly angel, so simple yet so pure. The most meaningful reward for their club activity, as they perceive it to be, is to feel something absolutely wonderful through the process of giving love and care to those who are needing.

It is an honor for the club to have its endeavor recognized as one of top club activities. Yet the members are certain that SHH is undoubtedly worthy of this title. It offers excellent activities for students, who wish to take the responsibility of creating small changes to make the society a more warmhearted environment, to participate in. Even though the changes might be hardly noticeable, these can bring small delights to someone’s life: they might have given more free time to those volunteers who work daily at SHH; or perhaps, they might have brought some joys to a child who is depressed for the fact that she could not run around freely as others do.

Regardless of how small the club's contributions are in this world of billions of people who live in poverty and fear, it is meaningful as long as the members are taking actions, and feeling the urge to serve and to help.
