Grade 9: Frenshman Project
On the afternoon of May 27, during CAS class, the students of grade 9 presented their Freshman Projects in class, focusing on the topic "Who Are We at SHSID?". This is a group project in which students can define their community at SHSID in terms of nationality, their classmates, the city they live in, the friends they have, being a generation connected via internet, their fandoms, the varsity teams they love, etc. They can study a given cultural artifact, like Chinese tea, or examine a problem we all encounter, such as determining how to eat healthy.
At the beginning of this semester, the students freely divided themselves into groups and selected topics. After more than two months of study and research, they are now beginning to take shape with some gains. Students from each class entered the online conference room of their homeroom, and each group took turns showing their slides. Students’ projects cover various topics such as ‘Modern Day Adolescents’ Mental Conditions’, ‘Global Citizenship at SHSID’, ‘The Amazing World of Blackboard’ and so on. The research methods included literature reading, online questionnaire, programming, and even complicated data analysis. The Freshman Project provides an opportunity for the ninth graders to develop their skills as students and individuals and cooperate as a team. The students gained a lot experience throughout the process. Before the end of the CAS class, students voted on the best project in their class.
