Primary Section: A Special Children’s Day, an Unforgettable Memory
June 1st, the day that belongs to children, was celebrated by all the primary students and teachers at SHSID. This year’s celebration was special and memorable. The teachers prepared online and offline activities for the students.
Puxi Campus G3
“Hello, you have a package from SHSID. Please sign for it!”
“Really? A package for me? What is it? Let me have a look... Wow, a treasure box!”
This year’s Children’s Day has surely been an unprecedented and unusual one. Unlike the previous celebrations of singing and dancing on stage, we were challenged with finding a way to still make it fun and memorable for every student. The G3 teachers thoroughly discussed the possibilities over Zoom, and finally, they decided to deliver a special and mysterious gift to the home of each G3 student. Classroom teachers worked together to stuff goodies inside of engraved treasure boxes before locking and wrapping them up to be sent out in time for the weekend before Children’s Day. This way, the kids would be filled with suspense and anticipation. Now, let’s check out what’s inside the boxes together!
But wait.. how could they unlock the boxes without the special password? The clues to the passwords could be found on LC, where the regular lessons had been replaced by lots of fun online activities and puzzles. Students played the games to earn each of the 4 clues needed to create the secret code that would unlock their treasure box. Throughout Children’s Day, classroom teachers heard from many parents about how their children woke up extra early in order to log into LC and discover each of the clues.
At last, the kids were able to open their treasure boxes and retrieve the hard-earned and meaningful gifts that waited for them inside, including a DIY plant growing kit. We hope that our students will plant the seeds of their dreams, and continue to have a happy learning journey full of healthy growth.
Pudong Campus
The first grade students had an online class party. Each class had a different theme, such as Pajama party or snack party. During the party, the students joined in the “Shake It Off” challenge. They used the ping pong ball and the belt that were mailed home by teachers to play the fun game online with their classmates.
The second grade students also had an online class party with their teacher! What is more exciting is they will see their classmates and teachers at school on June 2nd. Moreover, they will receive the gifts prepared by their teachers!
The third grade students got to open the password treasure boxes mailed to them by the teachers in the morning. They needed to finish the fun online challenge to get the password clues and unlock the treasure boxes! During the activity, they not only enjoyed the joy of exploring secrets, but also truly found that knowledge is the key to the unknown world!
Unlike the lower grades, the fourth and fifth grade students celebrated the holiday at school with their peers and teachers.
The fourth grade students also enjoyed their exciting Children’s Day celebration. During math class, the students acted as ‘math prophets.’ Using rigorous mathematical thinking, they played math games called ‘Magic All-Seeing Eye’ and ‘Magic Hexagons’. With the guidance of their teachers, the fourth graders had a Chinese idiom race, which was very popular during the online learning period.
The teachers from fifth grade also prepared diverse activities for their subjects. In English class, the students watched a movie related to the Author’s week, and they explored more in the world of Greek mythology. The Sudoku game in math class was not challenging at all for the fifth grade students who enjoy thinking games. In Chinese class, the students participated in fun Chinese proverbs game. They were amazed by all the witty remarks and impressed by creative Chinese sayings.
All the students had an unforgettable Children’s Day celebration. The special Children’s Day let all the students experience happy laughter with their peers, the joy of successfully finishing a task, and the careful guidance and teaching from their teachers.
