Books have influenced our lives in many different ways. Some bring tears to our eyes, some inspire ideas and transform our lives, and some stimulate our imaginations and develop our creativity. For the G3 students of Puxi campus, the week of March 23rd to27th was undoubtedly the busiest and most fruitful week since the start of distance learning! Multiple subject activities have appeared online, the most enjoyable of which was definitely the Author‘s Week with Roald Dahl.

Renowned as the world’s greatest storyteller, Roald Dahl’s life was full of extraordinary colors. His fantastic and surreal writing has become a great obsession for children. His books remain exceptionally popular worldwide, with classics such asThe BFG,Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,The Witches, among many others. To enable all of the students to dive into his world, G3 teachers launched a number of activities through which they tookstudents on a wonderful reading journey.

The Author’s Week was centered aroundRoald Dahl and his incredible workCharlie and the Chocolate Factory, and it focused on engaging students in both intensive and extensive reading, expanding their love for reading, and experiencing the joy and fun that readingcreates! Not only was it about encouraging students to read, but also it is about allowingthem to feel theauthor's distinctive writing styleand explore thisnew world through imagination and creativity. On Monday, students learned about the amazing Roald Dahl. On Tuesday, students made personal connections to the text by creating their own magical Wonka candy. On Wednesday, students dived into one of Roald Dahl’s famous characters by completing a word puzzle. On Thursday, students rereadCharlie and the Chocolate Factoryto understand thecharacter relationships. On Friday, students have tested their knowledge ofRoald Dahlon Kahoot, where they played a fun trivia game on Roald Dahl’s life, stories, and creative characters.

As Roald Dahl puts it, “Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting, and wonderful! Learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.” We hope that in their future learning and lives, all of the kids can read for fun and always share their reading passions with one another in order to become reallifelong readers.
