An Excursion to the Consulate General of Belgium

On November 8th, 8th graders from SHSID took an excursion to the Belgian consulate general located in Shanghai. A consulate general is the office of a consul, an official representative of one state’s government to another’s whose duties include assisting and protecting citizens of his/her own country while helping to establish trade and mutual friendship between the two countries. Once we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the consul in charge of the office. After a light snack, we sat on the lawn and learned about the customs, culture, and economy of Belgium, as well as the country’s relationship with China. We also learned about the capital city of Brussels, Belgian beer, and chocolate, as well as the founding of the European Union. Next, SHSID students acted out their exceptional performances, and overall we had a great time.
