Interschool Debate at SMIC

On March 25th, 2013, the SHSID senior debate clubs sent 9 teams to SMIC to participate in the interschool debate competition between SHSID, SMIC, Dulwich, and Concordia. Between 6:30 and 8:30, two rounds of debate were held ended with SHSID winning 5 debates and also 7 best speakers in the 8 matches it participated in (two teams from SHSID faced each other).

Overall, the reactions to the results were mixed. Mr. Lu, the teacher in charge of debate club, said that while the result wasn’t “the best that we could’ve hoped for”, it was still “not bad”. Lawrence Chan, the leader of debate club, claims that next time the debate teams would have “more preparation” and attributed the results to the fact that this was the first time debating for many of the teams.
