Grade 11 Assembly: Public Speech and Debate
The juniors at SHSID held their weekly morning assembly on Thursday, September 19 in Zhongxing Building.
After Ms. Yu’s announcements on school events, the stage was handed over to Chelsea Nam from class 11-2, who presented a slideshow about her public-speaking career. She began public speaking in 4th grade and became interested in public forum debates and British Parliamentary debates. She attended debate competitions and became aware of politics and global issues on the way. Chelsea also participated in many MUN events both as a delegate and as an assistant director. She recalled fondly her experience of speaking in front of hundreds of people from more than 150 nations around the world at the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) program. These experiences helped Chelsea establish her interests and determine her future majors.
Then was the promotion of the Clover volunteering group delivered by Sunny Chen, the group’s leader. The group is dedicated to serving children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and its regular activities are usually held every Friday afternoon.
Lastly came the promotion of the LongYin Dance Club. The club specializes in traditional Chinese dancing and will hold weekly practices to produce performances during both the Art Festival and Mix Day. The club welcomes all students who wish to perform with them.
The assembly concluded after the LongYin Club's introduction and the students marched back to their classrooms for another day of study.
