Grades 11-12: Candidates for ASB Shined on Stage

On Wednesday, September 19, as another CAS period of the week came, the juniors and seniors gathered in the Xianmian Annex Auditorium to attend the annual ASB election. Below the stage, students excitedly discussed the lists of names on the voting sheet they had just received and contemplated on whom to vote for; meanwhile, on the stage, the ASB candidates used the few remaining minutes to practice their speeches. They were determined to deliver exemplary speeches to convince the audience of their votes and respect.



The hosts stepped on the stage and announced the beginning of the exciting activity. The candidates stepped up on to the stage one-by-one to earn the students’ votes. Some attracted the audience's favor through humorous speeches, while some garnered students’ approval through appealing logic. At the end of each speech, the audience gave out their warmest applauses not only for their performance but for their courage for standing up to the responsibility of ASB.


Next came the part to display the candidates’ personal abilities. Some candidates chose impromptu Q&As, where they were given random and creative questions and gave ingenious answers in response. Some candidates banded in groups and presented their creative talents by dancing onstage. After the fun and deliberation, each student already had the list of candidates he or she would vote for in mind and carefully transcribed their choices on the voting slips.




Class ended and the students left the auditorium, casting their votes in the ballot box along the way. No doubt that the ASB members who emerged from this selection shall carry the expectations of their fellow students and in turn fulfill their responsibility of doing service to the school and the student body.
