High School: 2024 Summer Bash

At 4:30PM on Friday, May 31, ZTB reopened its doors to excited students, and its inner decorum completely transformed from what it was like in the morning, with aesthetic lights hanging all across the hall and classrooms and pop music blasting out of giant loudspeakers. For the past few weeks, the ASB has prepared tirelessly to pull off the Summer Bash, an afternoon of fun and play.

Almost immediately, people ran to the grass field with their water guns, squirting at each other in the light drizzle — even the sky seemed to want to participate in this Summer Bash. Here, all seriousness usually associated with school disappeared. Whether friends or strangers, people splashed each other energetically and creatively: some used traditional water guns, others were armed with water balloons, and still others decided to use entire plastic crates filled with water as weapons. Amidst the spray, dressed in shorts and flip-flops, people laughed, hollered, and squealed.

Other than the outdoor splash, various indoor activities in aesthetic rooms kept people entertained. A snack booth and a mocktail booth served plenty of food and drinks, with huge piles of backup snacks lying next to the counter. People chattered and played cards and board games in the venue. In a quieter area, a fortune teller read tarot cards in the corner as people strung bracelets in the red-and-purple lights. In the innermost room, a movie was played on the screen with cushions on the floor to lie on. In the main hall, pingpong game, face-paint, and photo booths surrounded the makeshift dancefloor, completed with a DJ set, disco balloons, and an actual disk ball hanging from above. Students were excited about these activities, laughing away and enjoying the relaxing time.

Summer Bash is SHSID’s unique way of greeting the summer. Among the laughing and talking, the bountiful and hopeful season is approaching.
