G11 | Junior Project Final Presentation
The Junior Project at SHSID is a significant undertaking for 11th graders, embodying the theme of improving the quality of life in Shanghai. It's a year-long, interdisciplinary project that leverages the knowledge and skills students have acquired across various subjects.
Throughout this school year's exploration and practice, the students first identified research topics for their respective groups and then employed innovative thinking to design diverse solutions and strategies. Whether through social engagement, online promotion, or innovative inventions, they strived to put their plans into action and bring about positive changes to the city of Shanghai through practical endeavors.
On Wednesday afternoon, May 29th, the students eagerly awaited the final moment of their project showcase. In five different venues, each group took turns to present their year-long hard work and achievements. Based on the criteria of innovation, social impact, and presentation quality, the judging panel selected the "Outstanding Project" awards. This year's project topics were diverse and in-depth, ranging from environmental sustainability to social inclusivity. Through various mediums such as short videos, apps, websites, and promotional brochures, the students vividly demonstrated their research findings and accomplishments.
After the group evaluations concluded, teachers and students gathered in the Annex Hall of Xianmian Building, to witness the impressive presentations of the "outstanding projects" that stood out. These groups conducted research on hot topics such as media transformation, food safety, care for disabled individuals, public transportation optimization, and artificial intelligence applications. They showcased remarkable achievements. Some groups independently developed solar-powered obstacle recognition robots, while others created a practical app to help the public understand food ingredients. There were also groups that conducted in-depth surveys to promote public awareness of electric vehicle usage. Notably, some groups ventured beyond the campus and immersed themselves in the community, providing solace to children with autism through art, or setting up a mobile book stand to exhibit old books and newspapers, allowing people to relive the warmth of the print media era.
The day wrapped up with an award ceremony, acknowledging the remarkable efforts and achievements of the students. This "Junior Project" not only honed the students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills but also allowed them to experience the joy and pride of contributing to society through practical endeavors.
