Grade 11 Assembly: Exploring Computer Science & Awarding Ceremony

In the morning of October 24, 2024, the 11th grade students of SHSID gathered in the Xianmian Building Annex Auditorium, attending the weekly assembly.


Sophie from 11(3) took the stage to share her extracurricular experiences in the field of computer science. She began by retracing her initial exploration in the field of robotics. Those days with robots not only ignited her strong interest in the field, but also refined her teamwork skills and sparked her creative thinking through countless attempts and challenges. Sophie fondly recounted how her participation in robotics competitions taught her to shine in a team, work together to overcome obstacles, and turn ideas into reality. Sophie's narrative then turned to her invaluable experience at the University of Pennsylvania's Computer Engineering Summer School this summer. There, she not only immersed herself in the wonderful world of algorithms, practicing and refining her programming skills, but also had the rare opportunity to apply her programming knowledge to solving real-world problems, crossing disciplinary boundaries and exploring the beauty of integrating programming with other fields. Finally, Sophie also shared the research she is doing in computer science. Under the guidance of her mentor, she writes code and continuously improves the project. At the end of her speech, Sophie encouraged every student in the audience to be brave enough to enter the hall of scientific research and experience the joy of exploring the unknown.



Immediately after that, the morning assembly ushered in another climax - the announcement and presentation of the individual academic excellence awards for the last school year. Ms. Yu took the stage, announced the list of the best in each subject area one by one, and personally presented them with honorary certificates. In the thunderous applause, the award-winning students took the stage one by one, with pride and joy on their faces. This honor is not only a recognition of their hard work in the past year, but also an incentive to continue to climb the academic road in the future.
