2024 Math Drama "Behind The Nine Chapters" is Coming
The brilliant history of mathematics owes its origins to numerous great explorers. Liu Hui, an ancient Chinese mathematical master, rationally explored the concept of limits and propelled discoveries from areas to volumes. His story will be brought to life in the Original Math Drama "Behind The Nine Chapters" at SHSID. The protagonist, Chen Qiling, once viewed mathematics as a cold and daunting challenge. However, through dialogues with the thoughts of ancient mathematicians, she rediscovered the warmth and depth of mathematics—the stories of creativity and persistence hidden behind formulas. This drama will immerse the audience in the hero's journey and a humanistic machine system, delving into the "Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art", leading audience to witness mathematical explorations from ancient times to the present. It showcases how mathematicians break through mental barriers, drive innovation, and reveal the cultural significance of mathematical development.
This Math Drama marks the third consecutive year that SHSID high school has presented a student-written, directed, and performed work. The students have independently completed a series of meticulously crafted works, including character design, script revisions, and animation production, demonstrating their creativity, passion, and interdisciplinary collaboration. After months of diligent rehearsals by the students and heartfelt guidance from mathematics and drama teachers, the play "Behind The Nine Chapters" will be performed at the SHSID Zhongxing Building Theater on December 5th (Thursday) at 16:30, exclusively for SHSID faculty and students. We will also share this play with the public through live streaming. Let us all anticipate this exciting performance together!
