December 16, 2024

On December 13, Friday morning, XY from class 12(4) and Wesley from class 12(9) shared their incredible experiences volunteering with SEATRU (Sea Turtle Research Unit) in Chagar Hutang, Malaysia, at the Grade 12 assembly. Their presentation detailed their week-long commitment to sea turtle conservation, highlighting the demanding yet rewarding aspects of the volunteer program.

They described the daily tasks, including nighttime patrols to monitor nesting turtles, egg relocation, and daytime nest checkups. They also shared humorous anecdotes about their living conditions (lack of air conditioning and wifi), encounters with mischievous monkeys, and a thrilling escape from aggressive triggerfish during a snorkeling excursion. The presentation underscored the importance of sea turtle conservation and the unique personal growth opportunities offered by such immersive volunteer experiences. Their presentation concluded with a strong recommendation for anyone considering similar volunteer work.
