SHSID 30th Year Anniversary Invitational

April 30, 2024

On Apr. 27, SHSID celebrated its 30th birthday by hosting teams from 6 other schools to compete in the SHSID 30 Year Anniversary High School Basketball Invitational.

Attending schools included:

Shanghai United International School Jiaoke (SUIS JK), Kang Chiao International School (KCIS), Shanghai Wenlai School (SWIS), Guanghai College International School (GHCIS), Qibao Dwight School (QBD), ULink College Shanghai (UCS).

The Stallions would enter an A team and B team to compete in this double elimination bracket. The SHSID A team would handle SUISJK comfortably in the first round whereas the B team, comprised of the SHSID seniors and some JV players, would give up a double digit lead late to the Broncos and lose on a last second shot.

In round 2 the SHSID A team would take a defeat against the Cheetahs, sending them into the losers bracket and having to crawl back through the losers bracket to make the finals, whereas the B team would win consecutive games including payback against UCS. After the A team beat KCIS by 1, this would set up an SHSID A vs SHSID B matchup with the winner taking on GHCIS.

After a win against their fellow classmates, the SHSID A team would take on GHCIS as they came off a defeat to the undefeated Cheetahs. The SHSID A team would fight through the fatigue and edge out a 34-23 win against the Hydra to make it back into the finals.

Unfortunately the fatigue of fighting through the losers bracket would prove too much for the Stallions as they weren’t able to click and QBD took the trophy.

This event caps off a year of memorable moments for Stallions high school basketball that included the JrNBA Shanghai league, the Asia Pacific Cup in Singapore, an SSSBL U19 championship season and multiple friendly games against other Shanghai teams.

The boys will continue to prepare for next season after the May holiday to sharpen up and try to build on their success of this year to create more memorable moments in 2024-25.
