Inheriting 160 Years of Proud: Messages from Alumni&Students IV
丁志远:
In the blink of an eye, it has been more than two years since I graduated from SHSID, yet the life and experiences there remain vivid in my memory.
From the day I entered in fourth grade, I witnessed many changes with SHSID: from the then-new Arts Building, to middle school complex, and to the two unforgettable years in Zhentao Building. Together with Shanghai High, I grew and progressed hand in hand. Every corner of the campus holds a fond memory for me.
From the innocence of first stepping onto campus, to gradually discovering my strengths, and to the many competitions I took part in alongside my classmates—each has left a lasting impression. What I cherish the most, however, are the beautiful moments spent together with friends.
The nurturing and support that SHSID gave me will always remain in my heart. I am deeply grateful for the patient guidance of all my teachers and for the companionship of my classmates along the way. SHSID will forever hold a special place in my heart!

Dear Alma Mater,
As Shanghai High School celebrates its 160th anniversary, I write with heartfelt gratitude and joy to offer my best wishes.
Time flies, yet the memories of my days at SHHS are as vivid as ever. I still recall the rush to grab a meal at Lawson’s during breaks, running with all my might just to snag my favorite lunch box; I remember the hours spent on the sports field, whether under the hot summer sun or the biting winter winds, our passion for the game never wavered. These seemingly small moments became the foundation of my youth, and the most genuine, warm hues of my life.
SHSID gave us not only knowledge, but also taught us to persevere through the ordinary and to move forward with love and passion. I’m thankful for the enduring footprints you’ve left on our paths, for every teacher’s dedicated guidance, and for every classmate’s sincere companionship.
May our beloved school continue to thrive and create new chapters of excellence, nurturing more individuals who are not only talented but also grounded.
Happy 160th Anniversary, SHSID!

This year marks my first year since graduating from the International Division of Shanghai High School—and it also happens to be the 160th anniversary of the founding of Shanghai High School.
I still remember that very first moment I stepped onto campus five years ago—the feeling was a mix of anticipation and nervousness. Some say that the older we get, the faster time seems to pass. That’s exactly how I feel about my four years at SHSID: back in 9th and 10th grade, high school felt long—after all, four years is a lot; but by 11th and 12th grade, I began to realize just how short four years—and youth itself—could be. Perhaps it’s the busyness that erased the marks of time, making it slip away before we could even notice.
Suddenly, we had grown up—whether we were ready or not. But looking back on the path we’ve walked, I can’t help but feel that we’ve already experienced so much.
Behind the main auditorium of the school, there’s a huge tree. I was amazed the first time I saw its massive roots twisting through the earth and the thick canopy casting a wide, comforting shade. I loved lying on the grass beneath it after lunch, enjoying that moment of cool and quiet. “A tree like this must’ve taken many years to grow,” I thought. And I imagine that years ago—maybe even a decade or more—there were students just like me who lay beneath this tree, enjoying the same shade. And after me, there will be more.
Finally, I wish Shanghai High School continued success and prosperity. I also hope that every student can truly enjoy their time at SHSID.

Shanghai High School is where my dreams took flight. On the PE basketball courts, my journey from player to team manager revealed the heartbeat behind the game—those late nights coordinating logistics for our teams, those passionate pleas for players' opportunities. My alma mater taught me an invaluable lesson beyond classrooms: true growth begins with responsibility and deepens through dedication.
Years later, returning as a sport industry professional to host the Jr. NBA league, I collaborated with mentors to advance youth basketball in China. Watching students thrive in tournaments and school teams, I not only recalled my inseparable bonds with classmates but also embraced the power of legacy.
On this 160th anniversary, may SHSID radiate timeless grace, nurturing generations of scholars, athletes, and leaders who illuminate the world.

I still vividly remember the first time I came to shsid for the placement exam. I thought to myself, how wonderful it would be if I could study in this beautify school.
Not much later, I realized the beauty is not just in the campus itself. This place is filled with love and warmth.
Here, I met friends who were willing to bare my worries, teachers who patiently answer my questions, and homeroom teachers who always give me opportunities to stand on stage.
I had also experienced immense personal growth. I took more than a dozen placement exams, turned subjects I once lacked confidence in into my college major, and learned how to fully manage my time and energy.
Words can hardly express my gratitude. I hope this beautiful campus will always be full of vitality and sunshine. May the teachers continue to nurture students in their precious youth, and may the younger schoolmates believe in themself to achieve success.
Finally, on the 160th anniversary of our school, may the beloved teacher and schoolmates have a brilliant future head.
