Inheriting 160 Years of Proud: Messages from Alumni&Students IX
Cheng Siyuan
Ten years ago, I first walked into Shanghai High School. At that time, having just moved to Shanghai, this beautiful campus left a deep impression on me amidst all the unfamiliar new surroundings. Entering the campus from the Baise Road gate, after walking a few hundred meters, a redwood forest came into view. It was when the Orychophragmus violaceus was in full bloom; the straight tree trunks stood amidst a dreamy, pale purple expanse, and I instantly fell deeply in love with this place. Shanghai High School thus became the most ideal place of study in my young mind.
After enrolling, I was surprised to discover that 2015 was the school's 150th anniversary, and I gradually learned about the long history of this ancient 'Longmen Academy,' further increasing my sense of pride in my alma mater. During the six years of high school, I not only gradually discovered the academic fields I was passionate about but also made many close friends.
This summer, after graduating from university, I returned to the campus. After four years apart, old classmates reunited and were as warm as ever. Strolling through the campus, the teaching buildings I remembered had been replaced by wider, brighter modern structures, completely new. Yet, memories from my youth could still be found in the corners of the campus: the shortcut through the azalea bushes I ran along when rushing to the canteen in high school, the eternally green camphor tree forest where we took photos after the graduation ceremony... And that redwood forest, seen on my first visit, still stood tall, welcoming generations of diligent students coming and going.
On the occasion of the school's 160th anniversary, I wish Shanghai High School continued prosperity! This land will forever hold our most cherished memories.

Seeing the number 160 years, I am once again deeply aware of how small I am within Shanghai High School's long and storied history. Since graduating more than two years ago, every time I return to my alma mater, I have this same feeling, watching my dearest teachers guiding lively, energetic younger students, and seeing the familiar classrooms filled with youthful faces.
I may be just a drop in the ocean to Shanghai High School, but the few years I spent at SHSID were a moment of priceless value to me. Every course from which I benefited greatly, every kind teacher who took good care of me, every group of good friends with whom I shared similar interests—these memories have not only never left me but have also become my most solid and reliable core. Facing the various challenges that followed graduation, everything SHS gave me has made me more composed and stronger.
Shanghai High School once brought me six years of happiness, and now, as an alumnus, I sincerely wish Shanghai High School a happy 160th anniversary!

Over 160 years of history, Shanghai High School has always been a place where miracles happen.
The 'Cardistry & Magic Club' is bringing together fingertip artists from all grades to amaze and surprise others with magic and fancy card tricks. In this campus where creativity knows no bounds, playing cards, dice, and any ordinary objects become tools for performance art. Club president Shangguan Zikai and dozens of club members use their dazzling fingertip skills to pay tribute to their mother school.
For 160 years, Shanghai High and we have 'reshuffled' for the times and 'cut the cards' for the future. With fingertip artistry, we honor the infinite possibilities created by our school. Happy 160th anniversary to Shanghai High School—may the legend endure, may the magic last forever!

Now that I am at Berklee College of Music, I still remember the day I first stepped into Shanghai High School. I walked into the classroom, filled with a mix of nervousness and anticipation, entering the home that would accompany me for the next seven years.
During my time at SHSID, I gained countless precious memories. Whether it was chatting with friends at the Lawson during breaks, or the scenery along the paths to various classrooms, it is all deeply etched in my memory, becoming the warmest pictures in my heart.
Now, as a university student, I often miss those pure and fulfilling days. It was also on that campus that I truly fell in love with music for the first time, thereby beginning a wonderful journey.
Thank you to my alma mater for everything it has given me. I wish Shanghai High School a happy 160th anniversary, and may it continue to be the place where more students' dreams begin.

Looking back on my four years at SHSID, there were the joy of receiving the admission letter, the carefree happiness of playing with friends, the anxiety of my future, and the delight of reaping growth from activities.
From an elementary student with a low self esteem to a confident highschooler, SHSID witnessed all the highlights of my growth along the way. What enriched my heart in the past four years was the patient teaching of the teachers and the sincere encouragement of my classmates. My journey of studying at Shangzhong is far from over. On the occasion of the school's 160th anniversary, I wish the school will always prosper!
