Inheriting 160 Years of Proud: Messages from Alumni&Students XI
He Fengming
In 2015, I stepped onto the campus of Shanghai High School for the very first time. Everything felt fresh and filled me with anticipation—new teachers, new classmates, new buildings. In the blink of an eye, two years have passed since graduation. The classmates I used to see every day are now pursuing their studies across the country and beyond, yet the bonds we forged in high school continue to bring us together every holiday.
Shanghai High School has gifted us with lifelong friendships, allowing us to grow and progress together, both inside and outside the campus. Warmest congratulations on the 160th anniversary of our beloved alma mater!
Guo Hongjia
My years at SHS were simple and pure. Each day unfolded in a rhythm of awakening. I first came to this nurturing ground in first grade, and now I have grown into a young adult. Along this journey, my alma mater has been like a mother, steadfastly accompanying and watching over me.
During these nearly twelve years, I have met many different classmates, each with their own distinct personalities and unique strengths. Our teachers consistently enriched our minds with knowledge, while lively debates and discussions strengthened our capacity for thought. If the school built a grand stage, then we, the students, were the actors upon it—without a script, guided only by our most genuine thoughts and reflections.
Here, I express my gratitude to all the teachers who have instructed me! And to every classmate who colored my days with vibrancy and joy—thank you! May Shanghai High School continue to flourish and prosper!

Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, SHS has reached its 160th anniversary. Although I’ve already moved on to university, looking back on those joyful moments in the classroom and the laughter shared among classmates still fills me with deep emotion. I am immensely grateful to my alma mater for broadening my horizons and giving me the confidence and strength to move forward. On this special anniversary, I sincerely wish SHS even greater achievements in the future!

On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of SHSID, I am filled with deep emotion. Looking back on the years I spent on campus, they were a time of growth and exploration. SHSID not only nourished me with knowledge but also subtly shaped my character and broadened my horizons. In the classroom, I learned to think deeply and study earnestly; in campus activities, I learned to cooperate and communicate; in clubs and varsity teams, I learned to pursue and persist in my passions. It was here, through exploration, that I gradually came to see the road ahead, to understand the true meaning of learning, and to recognize responsibility and commitment.
Many times, my passion for a subject was ignited simply because I encountered inspiring and encouraging teachers. They sparked my curiosity and opened the door to broader worlds. The friendships I forged during those days have also become irreplaceable in my life. We strove side by side and shared our dreams for the future. These precious experiences and memories have become the foundation and strength of my life’s journey.
Now, as my alma mater celebrates 160 glorious years, I sincerely wish it continued growth through both tradition and innovation, nurturing generations of talents who embody both wisdom and compassion!

Looking back on the day I first stepped into SHSID in ninth grade, it still feels like yesterday. I remember the mix of curiosity and nervousness I carried, and how I slowly grew from feeling uncertain to feeling at home. Four years passed in the blink of an eye, yet they remain one of the most defining and cherished chapters of my life.
My time at SHSID taught me far more than what was in textbooks. I learned how to think critically, work with others, and express myself with confidence. More importantly, SHSID opened my eyes to a wider world — giving me the chance to connect with top global institutions and providing a foundation of support that continues to carry me forward. I will always be deeply grateful for the encouragement and guidance I received there.
I often think back to the days when my classmates and I worked side by side — preparing for exams, sharing laughter, and dreaming about the future. Those moments have become some of my most treasured memories. Though we’re now scattered across the world, every time I think of my school and teachers, I still feel a deep sense of warmth and belonging. On SHSID’s 160th anniversary, I wish the school continued success and brilliance as it inspires future generations to reach for an even broader and brighter world!
