On the afternoon of October 20, renowned international mathematician Professor Po-Shen Loh, former head coach of the U.S. International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) team, visited Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID). He delivered a high-level academic lecture to our middle and high school students in the library of Hsi Building D.  Mr. Shen Tianyuan, Vice Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School, attended the event and presented Professor Loh with a school souvenir as a token of appreciation.

Professor Po-Shen Loh holds a bachelor's degree from Caltech, a master's degree from the University of Cambridge, and a doctoral degree from Princeton University. He is currently a professor of mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University. Serving as the head coach of the U.S. IMO team from 2014 to 2023, he has been the Vice Chair of the IMO Foundation since 2023, earning widespread acclaim in the fields of mathematics education and talent development. Professor Loh himself was a silver medalist at the IMO and received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, presented by the President of the United States, reflecting his outstanding academic achievements.

During the lecture, Professor Loh elucidated the proof of the mathematical constant "e" in a rigorous yet accessible professional language, guiding students to appreciate the precision and purity of mathematical logic. In the interactive session, SHSID students demonstrated a strong intellectual curiosity and solid academic foundation, actively posing questions and engaging in in-depth and dynamic discussions with Professor Loh, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere.

In his exchanges with the students, Professor Loh highly praised the outstanding performance of SHSID students, noting that they exhibited remarkable potential to continuously push the boundaries of knowledge and capability. He further encouraged the students to cultivate independent learning habits and maintain persistent enthusiasm on their academic journey, expressing his belief that SHSID students will continue to surpass themselves and achieve new heights of excellence.
