2025 Shanghai High School International Division Eleventh Theatre Festival Concludes Successfully: Diverse Cultures Grace the Stage, Youthful Talent Shines Bright
On December 24th, 2025, the Eleventh Theater Festival of Shanghai High School International Division concluded amidst enthusiastic audience applause. This year's festival brought together eight spectacular productions, presenting an artistic feast that spanned time and cultures and showcased fully our students' exceptional talent and boundless creativity.
The festival kicked off with a dynamic clash of musicals and classics. The L2D High School Musical Theatre Club's performance of “Ways to Be Wicked" from Descendants instantly ignited the atmosphere with its youthful energy, dazzling stage design and powerful delivery. The “School’s Out” Middle School Musical Theatre Club captivated the audience with the fantastical narrative and moving melodies of Into The Woods, demonstrating the unique charm of musical theatre.
The dialogue between tradition and innovation was equally impressive. The Han Society Primary School Club's "A Mobile Phone's Fantasy Journey" creatively explored the relationship between technology and life from a childlike perspective. The jointly adapted textbook play "Mission Accomplished: The Story of Tang Ju" by the Middle School Chinese Club and the Han Society Middle School Drama Club group vividly displayed Chinese wisdom and cultural heritage through masterful period costumes and acting.

The interpretation of Western classics also featured notable highlights. The original Cabaret Between Ourselves by the High School Classical Western Theatre Troupe resonated deeply with the audience through its nuanced emotions. The Opera Club's collaborative performance of "All I Ask of You" from The Phantom of the Opera was utterly captivating, while the aria "Dove sono i bei momenti" from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" added a touch of elegance with authentic Italian bel canto, building the atmosphere to a climax. The Middle School Actor’s Club delightful rendition of Shakespeare's comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor allowed the audience to experience the cultural appeal of Elizabethan Drama up close.
This year's Theatre Festival not only showcased the students' outstanding artistic abilities but also embodied a spirit of cross-cultural and cross-age collaboration. From Western classics to Eastern tales, from the excitement of musicals to the intensity of stage plays, every moment onstage reflected the dedication and passion of both students and teachers for the performing arts, leaving a significant mark on the campus culture. This artistic feast provided not just auditory and visual enjoyment for the audience but also served as a vital platform for students to express themselves and hone their skills, highlighting the fruitful achievements and international perspective of SHSID's arts education program.
