Good News from S.-T. Yau High School Competition in Mathematics and Physics

December 2, 2025

We are delighted to share exciting news from the 2025 S.-T. Yau High School Competition in Mathematics and Physics: Grade 11 student Spencer stood out among top competitors, advancing from a competitive field of over 600 students from more than 60 schools to reach the physics interview round, and ultimately earning the honorable mention award in Physics! This achievement underscores Spencer’s dedication and is a proud moment for the entire SHSID community.

Founded by Fields Medalist Professor Shing-Tung Yau, the competition is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious and challenging contests in mathematics and physics for high school students. The written exam took place on October 4–5, with only 19 physics students advancing to the final interview stage. On November 28, Spencer traveled to The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he calmly and confidently answered university-level questions posed by a panel of renowned professors from leading global universities, earning high praise from the judges.

This excellent result not only reflects Spencer’s solid academic foundation and innovative thinking but also highlights SHSID’s strength in nurturing top talent in physics and the sciences. The school remains committed to providing world-class platforms and resources to help every student shine on the global stage. Warmest congratulations to Spencer! We look forward to seeing many more SHSID students achieve outstanding success in the future!
