High School Math Department: Congratulations to Winners of the Shanghai Mathematics Knowledge Application Competition

December 9, 2025

The Shanghai Mathematics Knowledge Application Competition for High School Students is organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Art Education Center, the Shanghai Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Student Innovation Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The competition aims to promote mathematics modeling education, enhance students’ core skills in scientific and technological innovation, and foster the integration of mathematics with other fields.

The 2025 theme, “Mathematics and Art in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” required participants to apply mathematics and machine learning to design a conceptual framework for an AI-based evaluation system for hard-pen calligraphy.

Shanghai High School International Division sent a team of three Grade 10 students (now in Grade 11) to this year’s summer competition. After three days of intensive effort and a 15-minute presentation, the team stood out among 320 teams across Shanghai and won one of the city’s eleven First Prizes. (It is worth noting that the First Prize is the top honor awarded in this competition.) This achievement showcases our students’ strong skills in applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, and project-based learning—well-deserved congratulations to them!
