SHSID Middle School Goes for Gold at WSC–2025

December 13, 2025

Recently, seven of a talented Middle School students competed and thrived at this year's World Scholars Cup regional round in Shanghai. Linshan, Liam, Melinda, Xinyi, Paris, Claire and Joshua competed in a variety of individual and team competitions against some of the top students and schools from across Shanghai. Ranging from team debates and collaborative writing to the infamous Scholars challenge, our brilliant students showcased their teamwork, intellect, and creativity across a variety of subjects and competitions.

Having been the first years since 2019 in participating in the event, the students were new to the format, but that didn't slow them down! Working tirelessly over the past month they studiously prepared and honed the craft of oral debate, dove deep into concepts of media, art, poetry, music, science, and more; and explored global issues from perspectives of the past and present.

With all 7 students placing in the top 20 for debate Joshua ranked 1st among over 100 junior-aged debate attendees, while Melinda, Xinyi and Claire placed second among all teams in the team debate. Collecting over 40 gold level medals across all challenges and competitions in both single and individual events, all team members qualified for the upcoming global round!— Highlighting the continued excellence performance of our students; and not just in academics, but in teamwork and collaboration.

As a strong return back to the competition, SHSID is proud to support our students' dedication and desire to flex their skills as young academic scholars and future Global Citizens. We look forward to their continued success and growth, and growing participation of the on-campus World Scholars Club!
