High School Biology Department: Open Class on Taxonomy
Taxonomy plays a crucial role in exploring the mysteries of the natural world. On April 9, Ms. Yuan Yamin held an open lesson on Biological Taxonomy in the recording room of Zhentao Building, aiming to deepen the students' understanding of biodiversity and improve their classification skills.
Ms. Yuan started the lesson with a role-playing game of "Finding Friends", and in the lively discussion, she guided the students to establish a way of thinking about categorization based on similar traits. Afterwards, Ms. Yuan explained in detail the basic principles and methods of biological classification, including the naming rules of organisms, classification levels, and how to identify and categorize different kinds of organisms. The course covered a wide range of areas from bacteria, archaea, plants to animals, allowing students to have a comprehensive understanding of the diversity and interrelationships of organisms. Combining case studies, group discussions and other teaching tools with rich visual resources, Ms. Yuan guided students to actively explore and learn the concepts of "domains" and "kingdoms" in biological taxonomy.
Taxonomy is not only the foundation of biology, but also the key to environmental protection and sustainable development. Through this course, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of biodiversity and the scientific nature of measures to conserve biodiversity. The lesson attracted teachers from different disciplines to observe. After the lesson, the teachers exchanged views with Ms. Yuan on the form and content of the lesson and provided substantive suggestions for further improvement.
