Grade 9 Assembly: The Experience of Survival Training
Following the arrival of April, students began reviewing for the upcoming midterm exams. At the same time, the famous survival training everyone has been waiting for is looming over the horizon. During week eight, Aaron from grade 10 was invited to share his experience from the survival training last year on Changxing Island. He first introduced some of the activities that students will participate in, including a game called ‘the floor is lava’, which is a test of students’ agility. Next, Aaron shared his learning experiences from the trip, mentioning it is important to learn the use of a compass in the wild. He then summarized the challenges he encountered during the two days, like the activities of raft construction and long-distance hiking, offering specific advice to the ninth graders.
Afterwards, Aaron gave a general overview of the schedule of last year’s survival training. Beginning with an icebreaker and ending with dinner cooking and tent building, the day will be filled with a variety of interesting activities and games. Then, he used some of the pictures taken last year to further display the activities students will be completing as groups, providing an overall idea of what the event will look like.
As a tenth grader with experience, Aaron gave advice to the ninth graders on what they should bring on the trip. Daily life necessities like clothes, a backpack, raincoats, and comfortable shoes are the basic and most fundamental things students should bring. In addition to these, a flashlight, mosquito spray, sunscreen, and a watch are some tools that could come in handy in unexpected situations. The last suggestions Aaron shared with the students are to remember to cooperate with your group, be resourceful, and do not forget to also enjoy the process of exploration.
