Grade 9 Assembly: Growing Through Passion

January 2, 2026

At the Grade 9 assembly on December 30, Grade 9 student Emma delivered a heartfelt speech themed "My Musical Journey", sharing her story of becoming interested in music, developing it from a hobby to a profession through passion, and pursuing her ultimate music dreams. Her sincere and vivid narration not only allowed the audience to feel the power of music but also conveyed a youthful attitude of holding on to passion and bravely chasing dreams.

Emma began by recounting how her interest in music was sparked. She mentioned that her passion for vocal music stemmed from her mother, who was once a music student too. Her mother often shared her experiences of studying music at home, planting the seed of music in Emma's heart. The real turning point that solidified her decision to learn music was her experience participating in the “Young Stars of Tomorrow” competition. When she performed on stage, Emma found herself able to immerse herself in the song's emotions and express herself naturally. The positive feedback from the judges and audience made her realize for the first time that she might truly have a talent for music, which strengthened her determination to study vocal music systematically.

After enrolling in SHSID, Emma's musical path expanded to a broader stage. She joined the High School Opera Club, where she met peers who shared her passion for music. "The opera club is like a warm, big family. We gather because of our love for music, rehearse, and refine together toward common performance goals. The atmosphere of pursuing what we love is truly precious," she recalled. Afterward, she participated in various school activities, including the Arts Festival, Charity Concerts, and Noon Concerts. During the Arts Festival, she and her club members presented classic opera excerpts, experiencing the charm of traditional art. At the Charity Concerts, she used her singing voice to support public welfare projects, realizing the power of music to convey warmth. The Noon Concerts provided her with a more relaxed opportunity to share her favorite songs and connect with classmates through melodies.

"I'm especially grateful to SHSID for providing me with so many opportunities to develop my interests," Emma said with emotion. "Whether it's club resources, activity platforms, or the support of teachers and classmates, it has made me realize that when you truly love something and are willing to put in the effort, the school will become your strongest backing."

This assembly not only allowed teachers and students to learn about Emma's musical learning journey but also triggered everyone's reflection on the relationship between "interest and growth" — it turns out that loving something and persisting in it is growth itself.
