Lin'gang Campus: A Fire Safety Journey About Courage and Order
Prioritizing campus safety and strengthening students' awareness of emergency preparedness, all second-grade students from Shanghai High School International Division's Lin'gang Campus visited the Dishui Lake Fire and Rescue Station on March 18 for an engaging and educational fire safety experience.
The moment they stepped through the gates, the young visitors were captivated by their surroundings. "Wow, this place is huge!" exclaimed the children, their excited voices reflecting their fascination with this mysterious "kingdom of safety." Unlike a standard tour, however, the adventure began with something special—a live demonstration of the firefighters' daily training routine.
At the training tower, firefighters showcased their exceptional skills. First, they rapidly ascended the building while carrying heavy ladders on their shoulders. Immediately after, they demonstrated rope climbing, pulling themselves up multiple stories with nothing but arm and leg strength, moving as swiftly and gracefully as swallows. The children watched in awe as the firefighters performed these challenging maneuvers with remarkable speed and precision, etching an unforgettable image of these everyday heroes into their minds.

Filled with admiration, the students then toured the firefighters' living quarters. The spotless floors and neatly arranged belongings immediately conveyed a sense of order and discipline. The highlight was a live demonstration of how to fold a soft blanket into a perfectly square "tofu block" through a series of precise folds and presses. Impressed by the demonstration, the children applauded spontaneously and expressed their desire to organize their own bookshelves and rooms just as neatly at home.

Next, the group visited the station's Honor Wall, where gleaming trophies and dramatic news coverage chronicled the firefighters' bravery and their stories of rushing into danger. Reading about the courageous deeds of these respected warriors, the children were once again awestruck, silently grasping the profound meaning behind the station's motto: "Go through fire and water, serve the people with dedication."

The most anticipated part of the visit was undoubtedly the up-close introduction to the fire trucks. Firefighters opened multiple compartments on the gleaming red vehicles, explaining the functions and uses of various rescue tools in simple, accessible language. The children eagerly examined the "treasure chests," curiously touching and exploring the equipment. The excitement peaked when firefighters staged an emergency response drill. At the sound of the alarm, the same firefighters who had been calmly explaining just moments earlier instantly switched into action mode. They sprinted to the garage, donned their gear, and jumped onto the trucks—all in under one minute. Witnessing this seamless, lightning-fast response gave the children a powerful understanding of why every second counts in rescue operations.

At the conclusion of the activity, the children presented handmade collage artworks they had prepared. Their colorful creations featured brave fire trucks and courageous firefighters charging into action, along with heartfelt messages: "Thank you, firefighters!" and "We hope you return home safely from every mission!" As they received these thoughtful gifts, the firefighters' faces lit up with warm and touched smiles.

The visit drew to a close in a heartwarming atmosphere. Beyond learning essential fire safety knowledge, the children took away valuable lessons about courage in training, discipline in daily life, and the importance of racing against time during emergencies. May this meaningful experience plant seeds in every child's heart, helping to build a strong foundation for their safety awareness and inspiring them to become better individuals as they grow.
