Puxi Campus G4-5: Choose Kindness in an AI World
The "Kindness Challenge Week" for the fourth and fifth grades of the SHSID Puxi Campus arrived as scheduled amid the warmth of spring. This "Warmth Initiative," themed "AI as Companion, Love as Company," cleverly combined technological elements with acts of kindness. Throughout the week, students took on different kindness tasks each day, gaining a genuine understanding through practice that while technology may be new, kindness brings lasting warmth. Through these challenges, love and wisdom quietly flourished on the springtime campus.

On Monday morning, as students stepped onto campus, they were immediately drawn to the tech-inspired display board in the school building's lobby. One by one, they lit up the heart on the robot's fingertip, as if igniting a spark of kindness born from the connection between people and technology. With a strong sense of ceremony, the "Kindness Challenge Week" kicked off in full swing. "AI can see data, but we can sense emotions"—carrying this thought, students took on their first task: writing "Kindness Letters." Throughout the week, they picked up their pens and turned everyday moments into words—scenes of classmates helping one another, unspoken gratitude toward their parents, and more. Once completed, the letters were solemnly placed into creatively designed "Kindness Mailboxes" in each class. During morning meetings each day, homeroom teachers shared the letters in a variety of ways. The classrooms would sometimes burst into laughter; at other times, they would fall especially quiet, as students listened to words like "thank you for helping me today," feeling waves of warmth rise in their hearts. One small letter after another allowed kindness to flow among them, giving students a genuine sense that warmth is always found hidden in the small moments of everyday life.

Between the lines, warmth flows. In the age of AI, more and more intelligent agents may be able to generate text in an instant, yet the power to choose our words remains firmly in our own hands. How to harness the warmth of language became the second challenge for the students."What would you say if you disagreed with a classmate?" "If a new student joined your class, how would you greet them?" Through these relatable, everyday scenarios, students were guided to reflect on the thoughtfulness and kindness behind their words. Drawing from language databases provided by AI, they independently selected phrases and crafted their own expressions of kindness. In these familiar school-life settings, students came to truly understand that a single warm word can carry unexpected strength.

Every act of sincere care deepens the bonds between classmates. Yet in our daily lives, there are also many who give silently without seeking recognition. One of the highlights of this "Kindness Challenge" was encouraging students to quietly perform a small good deed in an unassuming corner—whether helping the teacher organize assignments ahead of time, or silently picking up something a classmate had dropped. These quiet acts allowed everyone around to receive a genuine touch of warmth when they least expected it. True kindness is never about waiting for a command before offering a helping hand; it is about stepping forward before a word is even spoken.

Acts of kindness let love spread quietly. Today, AI can generate countless templates of hearts, but what we seek is the one that is truly unique. The "Creative Heart" activity launched on Thursday encouraged students to discover those hidden, heart-shaped treasures tucked away in the corners of everyday life. And so, more observant eyes began to appear—some captured the silhouette of a heart formed by the interplay of tree shadows in the afternoon sun, while others recorded a naturally occurring heart-shaped trail encountered on a walk. Each photograph represented the students' most meticulous and unique discovery in their daily surroundings. This creative challenge not only sparked their observation and imagination but also gave them a deeper appreciation that formulaic generation can never replace the innovation and ingenuity born from real life.

Gathering sparks of kindness, warming hearts with love. The "Kindness Challenge Week" gradually drew to a close amid warmth and heartfelt moments. Students picked up their pens one after another, writing down the insights and touches they had experienced over the week—those quiet acts of kindness they had done, the unexpected smiles they had received—all transforming into the most sincere reflections between the lines. Kindness does not stop here; warmth continues to spread. It is our hope that students will carry this strength with them in the days ahead, using their actions to convey the tenderness and warmth within their hearts, and making kindness the most cherished foundation of their lives.
