Grade 12 Assembly: Hongmei Primary School Experience Sharing

March 30, 2026

On March 27, seniors at SHSID held their weekly assembly in the Xianmian Auditorium, where Lyra from class 12 (7) was invited to share her reflections on participating in the Hongmei Primary School tutoring program.

During her presentation, Lyra elaborated on her experience as the leader of the “Psychology and Drawing” group, including the challenges she faced in organizing weekly activities, adjusting the syllabus, and teaching young students. Lyra mentioned that she often has to shift her teaching focus for the same lesson plans when facing students with totally different personalities. For instance, for a naughtier class, Lyra guided kids to quiet down and pay attention; meanwhile, for an overly quiet class, Lyra drew the kids in with interesting hands-on content so that they participated more actively in class. This flexible method of teaching made Lyra popular among the students at Hongmei.

As the leader of more than thirty tutors, Lyra also faced the difficulty of adjusting class schedules. When other group members were absent or unavailable, the leader had to prepare for and attend classes on her own. Thus, being the leader of Hongmei Primary School tutor groups requires stamina and sufficient free time.

Lyra pointed out that even though the tutor program brought many challenges, she gained plenty from becoming a tutor, which is why this program is her favorite activity throughout high school. As Lyra mentioned in the conclusion of her speech, teaching not only benefits the students but also brings immense pleasure and self-fulfillment for the teacher.
