Middle and Primary School English Department: Reading Wonderland
During week 6, our Grade 1 to 3 English Department at Puxi, Pudong, Hongkou, and Lin’gang campuses of the International Division have begun their magical Reading Wonderland adventure! Throughout the week, students participated in engaging activities that celebrated reading and the joy of storytelling.

To get ready and excited for Reading Wonderland, students kicked things off with a Book Swap where they shared beloved stories and explored new books to enjoy! The week continued with D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time, as students got cozy together in their comfiest pajamas. During Dress Like a Librarian Day, students had the opportunity to listen to their teachers’ favorite books, sparking curiosity through shared stories.

The celebration continued with a Reading Scavenger Hunt, where students searched for clues hidden around the school, and a Bookmark Competition, where each grade selected a winning design to be turned into real bookmarks for all to use. For the finale of the week, everyone enjoyed a Reading Celebration Tea Party, dressing up as their favorite storybook characters and enjoying the exciting stories from a variety of authors.

In addition to these shared experiences, our additional campuses introduced special activities to further promote a love of reading. At the Lin’gang campus, the Grade 1 Lending Library has been relaunched, allowing students to borrow books and write weekly reviews for their peers. Grade 2 students dressed as their favourite book characters and took part in a fun catwalk parade, along with a best-dressed competition. Meanwhile, at the Hongkou campus, Reading Week was extended into a Reading Month, and families will be featured in Family Reading Night videos to celebrate reading beyond the classroom.

Our Reading Wonderland was an exciting and memorable experience that truly highlighted the power of books, imagination, and community. As we continue having reading adventures every day, we encourage all students to continue exploring new stories, sharing their love of reading, and letting their imaginations bloom!
