Grade 9 Assembly: A Journey of Self-Discovery

On March 31, SHSID hosted another 9th-grade assembly. This time, the theme was about self-discovery, time management, and meaningfulness with your spare time.


The speaker of this assembly was Ray, from class 9(1). A skilled soccer player, and an aspiring Chemistry Olympiad student, Ray shared with the peers his experiences and personal growth during the winter holidays.


Ray set off with a trip to Huangshan directly after the finals. Although he went through exhausting training, he realized that only by experiencing different cultures can one understand the wisdom of our ancestors. Immersed in nature, he also found true peace. Next came the soccer tournaments. Ray and his teammates practiced in extreme heats, and with the climate and physical exhaustion, they were pushed to their limits. However, they persevered through multiple matches. This experience taught Ray that the biggest challenge isn’t your opponent, but your own limits. Growth comes from pushing through discomfort. During Chinese New Year, Ray also chose to study chemistry intensively. This led to him earning a place on a competition team. 


Ultimately, Ray questioned the need to be excellent at everything. He realized that embracing effort and finding balance was the key. By balancing work and rest, appreciating life, and continuing to strive forward, everyone could achieve their journey.
