2026 Shanghai High School Student "Art Performance Season" Grand Opening

Starting from May 15th, 2026, the "Student Art Performance Season" of Shanghai High School will once again kick off. This season will feature a total of twelve special performances, covering various art forms including wind ensemble, vocal music, string music, drama, original music, dance, piano, and more.



Wind Band Special

On May 15th, 2026, the 11th "Summer Concert" of the Shanghai High School Wind Ensemble will take the stage first. Since its establish ment in 2010 and always heralding the coming summer with music since 2016, this is the eleventh time the band has held its summer concert. The Wind Ensemble will, for the first time, invite the Saxophone Ensemble of Shanghai Normal University as a joint performance group, and will premiere original works by current students.



Vocal Music Concert (I)

The SHSID Middle School Choir's performance is themed "Our Seventh Spring," which is also the choir's seventh‑anniversary concert. The repertoire covers pop, folk, international, classical, and a cappella styles, blending Chinese and foreign folk songs, classic golden hits, and healing lyrics. With pure and harmonious vocals, the choir will showcase seven years of choral achievement and the vibrant energy of youth.



Vignette Play

The theme of this year's theatre performance season vignette play is "Weaving Dreams with Light and Shadow, Gathering Youth with Drama." From the misty opening of the original suspense musical "Tacet," to the innocent encounter in "Spring Outing Meeting the Sages"; from the audio‑visual feast of "Coco," to the passionate debate of "Tongue Against the Scholars,” the profound Western classic "Eurydice," the epic grandeur of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," and the majestic finale of the musical "Epic," this will be a radiant dramatic feast spanning ancient and modern times, blending Eastern and Western cultures!



Original Music Concert

This original music special focuses on the power of youth originality, with highlights including student original bands, original jazz music, original guitar works sharing the stage, along with self‑choreographed dance and original video game music. Diverse styles collide with inspiration, expressing feelings through notes and showcasing individuality through creation, fully revealing the unique talent and fresh artistic expression of youth!



Piano Concert

Building on the presentation of diverse styles from previous years, this piano concert will add an improvisational segment. Performers will create and play based on images given on the spot, interpreting the imagery of the paintings through piano tones, offering the audience an immersive audio‑visual feast where "sound and painting grow together."



Dance Recital

The dance special of this performance season is themed "Let Passion Shine," bringing together diverse dance styles such as pop dance, modern dance, classical dance, ballet, and folk dance. The program conveys emotion through dance and gathers strength through art, with a special presentation of outstanding works that won first prize in last year's Xuhui District Individual Art Competition, showcasing students' dance talent and the achievements of arts education, using dance to convey passion and the power of youth.



Tacet: An Original Musical  

L2D's Original Musical Tacet, with a libretto by Claire Lin and a score by Ocean Yu, details the story of Elliot Thompson, the most popular senior at Amberville High, who suddenly goes missing during a camping trip. His companions—Trinity Everhart, Theodore Everhart, Amelia Hollis, and Caleb Dale—become the main persons of interest for the officers investigating the case. As police interviews progress and evidence piles up, it becomes clear that Elliot’s mysterious disappearance is far from accidental. Someone among the group is hiding a sinister secret, and it is up to you to uncover the truth behind his fate.



String Orchestra Concert

Marking a new chapter of melodic art, this year’s string concert features an expanded orchestra lineup and debuts on the exclusive stage of the Grand Auditorium, delivering an immersive auditory experience with superior acoustic effects. The performance boasts diverse and inclusive repertoire, including the festive classic Spring Festival Overture, the magnificent string version of Riverdance, and a trendy medley of timeless hit songs. Gathering six exquisite ensemble groups, the concert builds a professional performance platform for students. Blending elegant classical charm and modern trendy styles, the melodic string music presents an extraordinary and delightful musical feast for the audience.



Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl

Eurydice retells a classic Western myth from a unique female perspective. Set in the early twentieth century, the play explores love, intimate bonds, parent-child relationships, the essence of life and memory, and how language and music shape identity. A creative playground for stage designers, this play challenges performers to break through the boundaries of traditional theater and explore diverse theatre artistry.



Vocal Music Concert (II)

This vocal music concert will be jointly performed by the Opera Club and the Children's Choir, including solo, ensemble, and choral forms, in four languages: Chinese, English, Italian, and German. Together, they will perform different versions of Italian folk songs and collaborate on Western classical opera arias. Amidst the interweaving of pure and rich voices, they will lead the audience to experience the infinite charm of vocal music.



Dream of Red Mansions by Cao Xueqin

The SHSID High School YouShan Chinese Drama Club presents a new interpretation of the classic chapter "Dream of the Red Chamber: Crab Flower Poetry Club." This play is adapted, directed, and passionately performed by the club's students. The stage recreates the elegant scene of the Grand View Garden residents forming a poetry club, interprets the classical literary talent of the Red Chamber, pays tribute to the timeless literature with vivid and sincere performances, and embarks on a poetic journey across time and space.



Youth Class Special Concert

The Youth Class Special Concert will be presented jointly by two youth classes. Violins intertwine with the clear melodies of pop music, guitars play the tunes of youthful campus, and Italian folk song performances add a splash of warmth. With strings and voices, the young students invite you to share an unforgettable time.
