Innovation Illuminates the Future, Science Inspires Growth— SHSID Middle and Primary School Science & Technology Festival Successfully Concludes
This semester, Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID) Middle and Primary School hosted a series of vibrant Science & Technology Festival activities under the theme "Technology Transforms Life, Innovation Illuminates the Future." A wide range of programs--including six major on-campus science competitions, short-term project-based clubs, a Creative Innovation Carnival, expert lectures, and science outreach visits--ran throughout the semester, providing students with a multidisciplinary platform integrating scientific inquiry, engineering practice, humanities reflection, and artistic creativity.

The festival opened with six flagship on-campus competitions, including the "Mushroom Cultivation Challenge, Engineering Masters Challenge, Environmental Solutions Challenge, 'Young Voice' Social Science Challenge, Science and Technology Photography Challenge, and the Creative Fashion Design Challenge." Students continuously strengthened their scientific literacy and innovation capabilities through project design, experimental exploration, model building, social research, and creative expression.
A major highlight of the festival was the Creative Innovation Carnival held on May 27-28. Approximately 3,500 students and teachers from SHSID Middle and Primary Division campuses in Xuhui, Zhangjiang, Hongkou, and Lingang, as well as Shanghui Experimental School and the main campus of Shanghai High School, participated in the event. The carnival featured themed exhibition zones covering environmental science, life sciences, engineering and technology, humanities and social sciences, mathematics and physics, and creative arts, with a total of 49 exhibition booths. Each booth showcased student research outcomes through experiments, interactive experiences, model demonstrations, and on-site presentations, highlighting students' interdisciplinary innovation capabilities and hands-on engagement in a lively atmosphere.

On the morning of May 28, Academician Gao Fu, a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), renowned virologist and immunologist, visited the school and toured the Creative Innovation Carnival in the afternoon. During his visit, he highly commended students' creativity and practical abilities across multiple disciplines. After the tour, Academician Gao was interviewed by the "Idea X" Grade 8 Service Learning student team, engaging with students on topics such as his academic journey, research development, and scientific thinking, while sharing insights on scientific research and learning.

In the afternoon, the Science & Technology Festival Closing Ceremony was held as scheduled. Teachers and students jointly reviewed the semester's rich series of science activities and recognized students with outstanding performance in this year's competitions. Academician Gao delivered a keynote speech, reflecting on life, learning, and science. He encouraged students to "respect facts" and to maintain rationality, truth-seeking, and kindness. At the end of his speech, he presented a collection of popular science books to the school, hoping students would further approach and understand science through reading.

Subsequently, Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School, delivered remarks expressing gratitude to Academician Gao for his visit. He also highly praised students' active participation and innovative achievements throughout the Science & Technology Festival, encouraging them to maintain curiosity about the world and to continue exploring boldly and innovating courageously in the future.

The closing ceremony concluded with robotic dance performances, a robot martial arts showcase, and an impressive science show, to a climax. Amid applause and amazement, students experienced the charm of science and technology, marking a perfect conclusion to this year's festival. Although the Science & Technology Festival has come to an end, exploration continues without pause. SHSID Middle and Primary School will remain committed to innovative education and the cultivation of scientific literacy, providing students with broader platforms for practice and inquiry, and allowing the spirit of science to accompany every student into the future.
