Practice with Dedication, Shoulder the Mission: Grade 11 CAS Showcases Social Commitment

On May 27 during the CAS course, Grade 11 students presented the outstanding results of their year-long Junior project, with ten exceptional teams sharing their innovative and socially conscious work.



The first team, SONIC, proposed an accessible map solution for the Shanghai metro that integrates environmental science, urban planning, and social science to assist visually impaired users and citizens, aiming to strengthen independence by allowing blind people to travel in metro stations without others’ help, elevate safety through voice guidance that lowers risks of getting lost and entering hazardous zones, and boost confidence and social engagement by motivating the visually impaired to travel, work, and join social activities more freely.





Shanghai Mindshare Education presented a combination of lesson plans, focusing on building accessible lesson plans for educating students in Shanghai. Team Tank of Green designed a photobioreactor catered to Shanghai’s pollution situation, based on research on specific statistics and suitability in Shanghai with reference to a similar product in Serbia, aiming to improve quality of life in terms of air quality and sky visibility.





Team Drive Safe aims to improve quality of life in shanghai by reducing road rage. They conducted surveys on driving adults, creating video and podcast content, and assembling a serenity kit with a soothing and softening texture and cooling tone to calm drivers down. Team Diabehavior innovated an AI-driven diabetes health management system with personalized dietary recommendations.






Team Mission Mute aims to reduce noise pollution in Shanghai, studying negative effects caused by noise pollution from a psychological perspective including hyperactivity, disrupted sleep, mood and health, as well as physics in terms of how sound travels in the form of waves and destructive interference that occurs when two waves are in opposite phase, with the goal of installing an active noise control system to cancel out unwanted sounds.





Team Freeway Friends developed a simple WeChat mini program that is a specialized urban tourism tool designed exclusively for the disabled community, striving to make tourism more convenient for the disabled according to their physical needs.





Team Bleachers adressed academic stress and solutions to resolve it as a relatable problem identified among students. Subsequently, team Bubblecup conducted investigation on milk tea and how there are often invisible sugar and trans fat risks that are hidden, interviewing milk tea brands to uncover these health concerns.






Finally, team Majestic Buddies’ presentation drew a conclusion to the diverse and impactful presentations. The event showcased the students’ interdisciplinary thinking, real-world problem-solving, and deep social awareness.
