Grades 11–12 CAS Lecture: Safety Tips for Studying Abroad
In the first CAS course of the second semester of 2026, Mr. Mao Yijun delivered a lecture offering in-depth insights into the legal field. As a senior partner at a law firm, Mr. Mao clarified that although this is a law lecture, its primary significance lies in discussing safety concerns and important considerations for students living overseas.

Mr. Mao highlighted that there are many common prohibitions across different countries that students need to pay attention to. For instance, while freedom of speech is an important right in the United States, individuals should not abuse this right to cause psychological harm to others. Therefore, he advised students to adopt more moderate ways of expressing their opinions. On this note, Attorney Mao offered valuable advice, reminding students to protect their own rights and interests while abroad.

Following that, Mr. Mao began to explain the application of self-defense. He stated that one should avoid conflicts with strangers on the street to protect oneself. When taking defensive action, it is necessary to consider both necessity and proportionality, avoiding excessive defense.

Mr. Mao also covered topics related to campus bullying, threats, racial discrimination, etc. Finally, he recommended several classic legal films to the students, bringing the remarkable session to a conclusion.
