Steady Steps, Boundless Horizons — Class of 2026 Graduation Ceremony

June 8, 2026

On the pleasant morning of Saturday, June 6, 2026, amid mild breezes and cloudless crystal-clear skies, SHSID held a grand commencement ceremony for its Class of 2026 high school graduates.

Today, they bid farewell to the campus that has shaped their growth, dreams, and adolescence, carrying forward the knowledge, resilience, and aspirations cultivated over the years as they step beyond the familiar campus. High School Principal Ma Feng led the graduates, dressed in their caps and gowns, from the Xianmian Building to the Grand Auditorium, traversing the short path filled with countless precious memories and moments.

As graduates made their way into the Grand Auditorium, they were warmly received by their families, teachers, and the welcoming music of the SHSID String Orchestra. As the host announced the beginning of the ceremony, the graduates entered orderly into the Auditorium, which resonated with the grand performance of the wind band playing one final tune for the graduates, each note stirring the echoes of cherished memories in their alma mater.

Principal's Address

Principal Feng delivered a warm commencement speech. Drawing on his mother’s advice from decades ago, he asked graduates to take good care of themselves. With inspiring stories of outstanding students, he encouraged them to carry forward the spirit of SHSID and the qualities they have developed in Shanghai: restraint and thoughtful reserve, to remain clear-minded in matters of importance and generous in matters of little consequence. He reminded students not to let temporary difficulties or changing circumstances to define their future. Their alma mater will always be cheering them on, following their achievements with pride, and welcoming them home.

Valedictorian Speech

Following the Principal's enlightening address, the class of 2026 Valedictorian Sunny took to the stage, weaving together humor and heartfelt reflection in her speech as she went through the many chapters of her twelve years at SHSID. She remarked, "Somewhere along the way, this school stopped feeling like a place we attended, and started feeling like a place that raised us." Her words resonated with everyone present.

Parent's Speech

As the parent representative, Ms. Wu delivered a speech. She extended sincere gratitude to all devoted teachers. Looking back on diverse outdoor and experiential activities ranging from Survival Training in Grade 9, Advanture Journey in Grade 10 to Global Citizen Day in Grade 11, she noted that countless quiet efforts from teachers have supported students’ growth.

Award Annoucement

Awards for Outstanding Individual, Academic Achievement, Social Activity, Talented Student, Principal’s List and Honors Student were announced in sequence. Afterwards, Principal Ma took the stage to reveal this year's special segment——three students received the Special Contribution Award for their dedicated efforts and exemplary leadership demonstrated throughout campus life and sporting activities. The announcement of the Silver, Gold, and Diamond Graduate Awards followed, recognizing graduates who have excelled in their chosen fields. Many of these students have achieved remarkable success. The awardees came forward to receive their honors amid warm applause.

Commencement

To soft music, school administrators and faculty shifted graduates’ mortarboard tassels from the right to the left side. This solemn ritual marks the completion of their studies and the start of a new journey, embodying the alma mater’s sincere wishes and expectations for all graduates.

Senior Gift Presentation

The ceremony moved to a warm gift-giving session near the end. Seventy-two graduates who have studied at SHSID for a full 12 years received exclusive customized keepsakes marking their whole campus journey. These students composed original poems about school life and recorded recitation videos in advance, whose sincere words of gratitude touched every audience member. On behalf of the Class of 2026, the Student Board President presented a parting gift to the school: a hand-drawn emblem created by one graduate’s mother. Shaped after the school’s initials, the first S is decorated with lotus flowers standing for integrity and boundless potential; the middle H is filled with peonies symbolizing prosperity and outstanding achievements; the last S features chrysanthemums representing perseverance against hardships. In return, the school prepared thoughtful graduation gift packages for all graduates filled with precious memories and lifelong friendship built on campus.

Graduation Song

Towards the end of the ceremony, all graduates rose to their feet to sing the graduation song, their voices joining together in one final, unified chorus. In the vibrant atmosphere, the glimmering lights from the 72 “twelve-year students” cast over the entire auditorium, as the remaining graduates made their way onstage for one final group photo together as the SHSID Class of 2026.
