Middle and Primary School English Department: Grade 6 Original Writing Works Showcase

June 9, 2026

Grade 6 students gathered in the Hsi Building Reading Room on June 3 to celebrate a year of creativity, collaboration, and literary achievement.

Throughout the school year, students across all Grade 6 English classes engaged in a variety of reading and writing experiences. They authored original poetry collections, worked in pairs to create original children's books, took part in the Grade 6 Poetry Recital Competition, and shared their children's books with fourth and fifth graders.

At Wednesday's showcase, students and teachers explored a gallery of student work that filled the Reading Room. Students eagerly browsed one another's books and poetry collections, shared their writing with peers, and celebrated the creativity and effort that went into each project.

A highlight of the event was a peer feedback activity in which students wrote positive notes about one another's work. These messages deliver encouraging messages to the student authors for whom they were written, providing a lasting reminder of the encouragement, appreciation, and sense of community that emerged through the writing process.

The showcase provided a fitting culmination to a year of authentic writing experiences, giving students the opportunity to not only to publish their work, but also to share it with a wider audience and celebrate the accomplishments of their classmates.
