June 18, 2026

During week 15, the middle school English department held a PBA showcase to display all the incredible multimodal work that the students have completed this semester.

Each student in sixth grade this semester wrote and printed an original TIME-style magazine containing an original interview with a literary hero of the student's choice. Students were allowed to use A.I. tools to help them design the magazine cover. All students were given a ballot to vote in a magazine cover design competition. The winners of the magazine cover design contest, according to the votes of the students, were: Third Place: Chelsea Xue from class 6(8) and Yun Lee from 6(7). Second Place: Emma Zhang from 6(11) and Cynthia Hou from 6(2). First Place: Allen Huang from 6(13).

G7's PBA is the Newspaper Showcase. Students' PBA articles, which were printed on authentic newsprint paper and looked just like real newspapers. Students tested their skills by identifying examples of bias and persuasive rhetoric, and they even got to step into the shoes of jury members from Inherit the Wind and 12 Angry Men. After hearing the evidence, they voted on the verdicts and then shared their opinions on whether juries are a reliable way to make important decisions.

8th grade held a project showcase revolving around the question "What is culture?" Across the room, student-created magazines were displayed. Alongside the magazines were Personal Culture projects presented through posters, artworks, and videos, showcasing students' personal culture and identity in different media.

PBA was an opportunity for students to show off their creativity and hard work, and allowed students to flex their muscles as independent learners and responsible global citizens.
