Primary Subjects G4: Science at Their Fingertips— Exploring Lily Dissection

June 18, 2026

In Week 15, the young scientists in Grade 4 participated in an engaging, hands-on plant dissection activity following their theoretical study of plant organs.

In the classroom, students carefully handled fresh lilies. Under the professional guidance of their teachers, they used tools to meticulously dissect the flowers. Moving from the outside in, they separated and observed core structures such as petals, stamens, and pistils. Through this close-up inspection, abstract textbook knowledge instantly came to life. The children not only clearly saw the pollen on the anthers but also gained a deeper understanding of the wonderful process of plant reproduction by dissecting the ovary of the pistil.

This inquiry-based activity perfectly combined theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice. By "learning by doing," students not only greatly improved their experimental skills but also gained a profound understanding of the functions of floral organs and the mysteries of nature.
