SHSID 2026 Academic Year New Semester Foreign Teacher's Orientation
From August 24 to 31, the Foreign Teachers' Affairs Office of Shanghai High School International Division organized a comprehensive summer orientation for new foreign teachers and all foreign teachers for the 2026–27 academic year.
The orientation covered a wide range of topics, including the use of multimedia equipment in the classroom, an introduction to school rules, regulations and the school curriculum, discussions on teaching methodologies, Chinese laws and regulations, and strategies for adapting to cultural differences. In addition, liaisons and foreign teacher volunteers helped new teachers become familiar with the campus environment and nearby facilities and services.

During the new teacher orientation, Ms. Hu Bo, Assistant Principal of SHSID High School and Coordinator of SHSID Foreign Teachers' Affairs Office, warmly welcomed the newly joined foreign teachers. She elaborated on four core principles for education and professional practice: sincerity and responsibility, closed-loop thinking, resilience and adaptability, and taking initiative and ownership. She encouraged all foreign teachers to incorporate these principles into their daily teaching and teamwork, remain committed to the purpose of education, and approach every student with a strong sense of responsibility. She also emphasized the importance of following through on tasks and maintaining effective communication in teamwork, developing resilience when facing challenges, taking initiative when problems arise, communicating openly, and actively embracing the SHSID community and culture. In doing so, teachers can contribute to students' growth while also pursuing their own professional development. Following the session, Ms. Wang Yizhao from FAO led teachers through the Teachers' Handbook and introduced key policies and expectations related to teaching and learning at SHSID.

During the training for all foreign teachers, Mr. Ma Feng, Vice Principal of SHS and Principal of SHSID High School, and Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School, first expressed their sincere appreciation to all foreign teacher volunteers who had supported the 2026 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026) during the summer. They spoke highly of the teachers' dedication and contributions throughout the event.

Principal Ma also reviewed some of the outstanding achievements of the High School Division in recent years and encouraged teachers to lead by example both on and off campus and serve as positive role models for their students. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a keen awareness of developments in education and technology and keeping pace with emerging technologies in order to better support student growth. Principal Liu shared the key priorities for the new academic year, including the upcoming opening of the Fengxian Campus. He also discussed the role of artificial intelligence and its future development, highlighting the importance of equipping students with the skills needed to critically assess the quality and reliability of AI-generated content.

In addition, subject departments and liaisons actively organized a variety of teaching exchanges, roundtable discussions, and other professional development activities, providing opportunities for teachers to share their experiences, insights, and effective teaching practices.

The FAO also organized a team-building activity for the foreign teachers. Mr. Feng Zhigang, Principal of Shanghai High School, addressed the event and expressed his great pleasure at joining the team activity. In a warm and relaxed atmosphere, he wished all foreign teachers a happy and fulfilling experience at Shanghai High School, both at work and in their daily lives.

The week-long summer training program for foreign teachers has now come to a successful conclusion. We hope that all foreign teachers will carry forward the knowledge, insights, and inspiration gained from the training, work together with a shared sense of purpose, and bring renewed enthusiasm and energy to their teaching and learning work in the new academic year.
