Pudong Campus: 2026 Opening Ceremony

September 8, 2026

On the morning of September 1, 2026, the  faculty and students of SHSID Pudong Campus gathered in the auditorium to celebrate the much-anticipated opening ceremony of the new semester. The school grounds buzzed with excitement and hope, as eager students looked forward to the fresh chapters ahead.

The ceremony began with a campus review video, which brought everyone back to the growth and highlights of the past school year. Ms. Liu Fang, Vice Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School, then delivered the opening address. She extended a warm welcome to all the new students joining the SHSID family, especially the new Grade 1 students. Looking back on this summer, she spoke proudly of the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which the school was honored to organize and support in Shanghai. Hosting such a large international competition was no easy job, she noted; it required constant communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and mutual support—the very power of teamwork. She then offered three suggestions for the new semester: first, learn to work together, for no one can do everything alone; second, be responsible, and do what you are supposed to do even when nobody is watching; and third, never give up, for success comes not from never making mistakes, but from never giving up.

Next, Mr. Wu Xiaodong, Director of SHSID Pudong Campus shared his message of encouragement. Grounding his address in the timeless wisdom of Seek Counsel from the Wise,Mr. Wu encouraged students to nurture a lifelong curiosity and draw inspiration from the unique strengths of those around them. He reminded them that knowledge comes not only from textbooks and teachers, but also from the diverse talents of their own peers. This empowering message set a dynamic, collaborative tone for what promises to be an extraordinary semester of shared growth.

Next, four outstanding student representatives took the stage one by one to share their growth stories and hopes for the new semester.

Ellie, a second grader, reflected on her progress over the past year and her goals for the year ahead, offering valuable insights for the newly arrived first graders.

Alex, a third grader, spoke on "The Power of Teamwork," sharing how he and his teammates independently completed a research project at the Science Fair. He noted that true collaboration is about listening, respecting different viewpoints, and making decisions together.

Tony, a fourth grader, playfully transformed into a "Time Ninja" and shared his "Ninja Schedule": tackle the important and urgent first, race the clock with a timer, arrange tasks by your energy curve, use pocket time to review—trading efficiency for more free time—striking a chord with the entire audience.

Kelsey, from the fifth grade, shared her ASB experience: managing herself well while serving the community, so that schoolwork and volunteer activities bring out the best in each other. At the close of her speech, she encouraged everyone to join the ASB, serve the school, and become a better version of themselves.

As warm applause filled the hall, the ceremony moved into its final segment—goal sharing and the awards presentation.

The students called up to the stage stepped forward with excitement, eagerly sharing their plans and aspirations for the new semester, as cheers and applause rippled through the auditorium. Moments later, the teachers solemnly read out the names of this semester's award winners. Beaming with joy, the honorees took their bows, while their classmates below looked on with admiration , all united in looking forward to the new school year.

With that, the SHSID Pudong Campus opening ceremony for the 2026 school year came to a successful close.
