Puxi Campus G1-3: Fire Drill
On Wednesday, September 9, Grades 1-3 students at the Puxi Campus held their first fire evacuation drill of the new academic year. As an important component of the CME (Character and Moral Education) September theme "Safety and Discipline," this drill aimed to familiarize all teachers and students with fire emergency procedures and equip them with fire escape skills. This ensures that, in the event of an emergency, everyone can remain calm and evacuate in an orderly manner amid real-life dangers.
Prior to the drill, homeroom teachers delivered fire safety instruction to students. Well-prepared PPT and engaging video materials helped students understand the purpose of the fire drill as well as basic fire prevention and risk-avoidance knowledge. Teachers broke down key evacuation movements step-by-step to ensure every student knew their class's escape route. Ms. Zhang Yi, Director of Grades 1-3, also gave further reminders about drill protocols over the campus broadcast.

When the fire alarm rang, students immediately stopped what they were doing. Covering their mouths and noses with their hands and keeping their bodies low, they followed their teachers and evacuated the primary section building swiftly and quietly along pre-planned routes. Keeping evacuation rules in mind, students avoided pushing, roughhousing or stopping to tie shoelaces.

Upon reaching the designated safe assembly area, each class formed lines promptly. Homeroom teachers took attendance right away and reported class status using green, yellow and red cards. After Ms. Zhang Yi announced that the building was safe and classes could return, students headed back to their classrooms in order under teacher supervision.

This marked the very first fire drill for Grade 1 students at SHSID. They learned survival knowledge and skills, and completed the drill safely and smoothly, performing every bit as well as their Grade 2 and 3 peers!
Following the drill, Ms. Zhang Yi delivered a broadcast summary. She announced the total evacuation time and commended students for respecting life and taking the drill seriously. Afterwards, guided by homeroom teachers, students reflected on and discussed both class-wide and individual performance, reviewed the evacuation process, and thought about areas for improvement.

This drill allowed all teachers and students to practice escape procedures and tested everyone's emergency-response capabilities. Completing their first evacuation successfully, Grade 1 new students moved from initial curiosity to orderly departure, taking a solid step toward self-protection on campus. The Primary Section will continue organizing regular drills to help students turn knowledge into practical habits, with each practice adding one more layer of safeguard for real-world safety.
