History and Geography Department: Ancient Chinese History Lunchtime Lectures

March 22, 2024

After the two lunchtime lectures "Rediscovering Confucius" and "Han Fei Zi and His Teachings" last semester, the lunchtime lectures on Ancient Chinese History continued this semester. Both teachers and students had a stage to show their love and understanding of Ancient Chinese History through these House Program activities.

On March 14, Ms. Zhou gave a House Lecture on "Between Myth and History: Nezha and Jianshang", focusing on the popular movie and TV star Nezha, and discussing the subtle connection between myth and history based on historical and fictional depictions in the text - from the true and false between history and stories, to the care for reality derived from the stories, to the development of ideological and religious origins, and reflections on personal destiny and values, guiding students to recognize the whole through observation of the part. On March 21, Alex Zhang gave a PA lecture on "Uncovering the Real Battle of Guandu in History", in which he pointed out many "mistakes" in Romance of the Three Kingdoms based on the account in The History of the Three Kingdoms. He introduced the causes and effects of the Battle of Guandu vividly, and organized a small knowledge quiz, which received a positive response from the audience. The atmosphere was lively.

Ancient Chinese history is all-encompassing, and the lunchtime lectures are just a small trigger, hoping that more and more students can deepen their knowledge of ancient Chinese history through these lectures, share and exchange ideas with each other, and enjoy the infinite fun it brings.
