SHSID Students Visited Intuitive Fosun Medical Technology

On the afternoon of September 18, a group of 12 high school students from SHSID, led by Ms. Zhang and Ms. Gu, visited Intuitive Fosun Medical Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. to experience cutting-edge medical technology up close, embarking on an exploration journey into surgical robotics. During the visit, everyone toured the surgical robotics development history exhibition and had an immersive hands-on experience with the Ion bronchoscopy robotic system and the da Vinci surgical robot.



The first stop was the surgical robotics development history exhibition. A technical expert traced the evolution of surgical robotics from early concepts to clinical application, with a focus on the application and development of the da Vinci Surgical System in minimally invasive surgery. Through on-site explanations and exhibits, the students gained a more intuitive understanding of the technological trajectory and clinical value of surgical robotics.


Under the guidance of clinical technical experts, participants entered the laboratory in groups and, using simulators, personally operated the da Vinci surgical robot, combining surgical theory with hands-on practice and experiencing the precise control logic of minimally invasive surgery in an immersive way.




During the hands-on session with the Ion bronchoscopy robotic system, participants learned about the unique features of its shape-sensing technology. Ion uses an ultra-thin shape-sensing catheter that can navigate deep into the peripheral lung and precisely reach small nodules that conventional bronchoscopes have difficulty reaching, enabling precise localization. By operating the Ion system hands-on, the students gained a more intuitive understanding of the clinical value of robotic-assisted bronchoscopy in the early diagnosis of lung cancer.




This visit to Intuitive Fosun was a vivid embodiment of the educational philosophy of SHSID. The school has created a platform for students to step beyond the classroom and engage with the frontiers of innovation. Through the precise operation of surgical robots, the appeal born of the convergence of medicine and engineering became truly tangible. May this curiosity and passion become the strength for students to make brave choices and move forward with determination in the future.
