Grade 9 Assembly: Introduction to Adventurous Journey
In the third week after school has resumed, students who had attended the Adventurous Journey activity greeted the ninth-grade students with an introduction to this program. Adventurous Journey, as its name suggests, is an adventurous trip that encourages students to explore on their own. In the middle of January, students set off to Tonglu, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in five groups. Their main goal was to complete a scientific study through this trip, which depended on the students’ life skills.
Before they had set off, students had had one day to buy necessities that would be used during the journey and also plan for their research experiment. During the journey, they were not allowed to use electronic devices, so more organized management could have helped teams better overcome the difficulties they might have encountered. The group members were each given roles like captain, navigator, chef, photographer, and safety supervisor. However, because students had to sleep in tents and cook their own food, the teachers strictly supervised each group throughout the journey, also ensuring they had written detailed plans for every step of the trip.
The students displayed some of the pictures they took, which were of the plant life they observed there, and also the reports they wrote based upon observations. After the event had ended, they summarized some qualities they concluded were important in this activity: teamwork, communication, persistence, life skills, and independence. While completing very meaningful scientific research, Adventurous Journey also tested the students’ social abilities and put their problem-solving abilities to use. Going through this unique experience, the students now have a deeper understanding of how vital teamwork is, and all attained growth in different areas.
